Janine Coombs, also known as Jkuhl. Born in Kingston Jamaica Is an eclectic, Indie Alternative singer-songwriter, who admires music and the art of music. At the tender age of three she was introduced to music by learning her first musical instrument, the piano. At the age of twelve she joined The Queen’s School Choir; there she found the joys of singing. During her High school years at The Queen’s School, she won first and second place prizes for vocal and instrumental solos at the Annual Performing Arts competition known as Eisteadford. These school competitions and choir events helped to introduce her to the performing arts world.With the loveof music and the arts running through her veins, Janine decided to pursue music as a career. In 2007 she won a scholarship through a music essay competition to go to Muzak Music Summer Camp held at California State University in Los Angeles, U.S.A. She spent two weeks with one other winner from Jamaica and 30 winners from across the U.S.A. The experience opened her eyes to the great tough tedious world of the music industry and was a great stepping stone in her career.
SHE IS AN ECLECTIC LISTENER WHO IS INFLUENCED BY MANY GENRES which is heard in her diverse music style. SHE IS A BEATIFIC MUSICIAN, SONGWRITER AND SINGER OF CLASSICAL AND POP WHO ADMIRE MUSIC AND THE ART OF MUSIC. IN THE SUMMER OF 2009 JANINE JKUHL RECORDED HER FIRST ALBUM "STAR GAZE", WHICH CONSIST OF TEN (10) INSPIRATIONAL ALTERNATIVE-FUSION TRACKS, TO INSPIRE, HEAL AND SOOTHE THE MIND AND SOUL OF LISTENERS. THE ALBUM ENCOURAGES PEOPLE TO LIVE GOOD, BE POSITIVE AND THE FUTURE WILL BE GOOD. Since then, Janine has written many songs exposing her developing style which she calls "Jkuhl".
Janine Jkuhl pursued A performing arts Degree at The Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts. There she studied Jazz, Classical and Jamaican Popular music with a major in Voice and second in Guitar and Graduated with Honours. In 2013, Janine was one of the first of eight recipients to receive the Edna Manley College School of Music Honours Award and perform at the College’s first Honours Recital.
She has performed at various events, such as; Radio RJR 94 Fm Music Week Acousticks Live Concert, Gungo Walk Alternative Music and Art Festival, Radio RJR 94 Fm Wednesday Night Live, French Embassy Fete De La Musique, Roots of the Arts, JARIA Reggae Month Show, Womanbition, Plug N' Play, Jazz N' More, Muzak Heart and Soul Noise Talent Show at California State University L.A, U.S.A. , Guest Soloist for The Diocesan Festival Choir of Jamaica Concert Series, the National Choral of Jamaica Elijah Tour as "The youth", just to name a few.
